MITCHELL, John Inscho, a Representative from Tioga County; born in Tioga Township, Tioga County, Pa., July 28, 1838; attended, University of Lewisburg (Bucknell University), 1857-1859; captain, Company A, 136th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1864, Civil War); teacher (1859-1861); lawyer (1864-1907); elected, District Attorney, Tioga County (1868-1871); editor, Tioga County Agitator (1870); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1872 term and reelected to 4 consecutive terms thereafter; elected, United States Congress (1877-1881); elected, United States Senate (1881-1887); elected, judge, Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, 4th District (1888-1899); elected, judge, Pennsylvania Superior Court (1900-1902); died, August 20, 1907 in Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pennsylvania; interred, Wellsboro Cemetery, Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
