MORGAN, John W., a Representative from Schuylkill County; born February 6, 1836 in Merthyr Tydvil, Glamorganshire, South Wales; regimental band, 96th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1862, Civil War); private, Company B, 39th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1863, Civil War); private, 4th Independent Battery, Delaware Heavy Artillery (1864-1865, Civil War); coal miner; plasterer; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1873; reelected to the House for 4 more consecutive terms; appointed, board of trustees, Miners’ Hospital; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1878); mining foreman, Shenandoah City colliery; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1882); died, November 2, 1907 in the city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
