SHARPE, James McDowell, a Representative from Franklin, Fulton and Perry Counties; born, October 7, 1830 in Newton Township, Cumberland County, Pa.; attended, Marshall College, Mercersburg, 1844-1846; graduated, Jefferson College (now Washington and Jefferson College), 1848; lawyer (1850-1883); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat for the 1864 and 1865 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1866); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1866); elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention (1872-1873); reelected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1882; died while in office, August 23, 1883 in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Falling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
