PENROSE, Boies, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, November 1, 1860 in the city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; attended, Episcopal Academy, Philadelphia; graduated, Harvard University, 1881; lawyer (1883-1921); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representative for the 1885 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1886); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1887-1896); elected, Senate President pro tempore (1889-1890); unsuccessful campaign, mayor, Philadelphia (1895); elected, United States Senate (1897-1921); died while in the office of Senate, December 31, 1921 in Washington, DC; interred, Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
