MATTEN, Charles C., a Representative from Schuylkill County; born January 8, 1858 in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pa.; graduated, Pottsville High School, 1875; second lieutenant, Company F, 4th Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard (1885-1889); teacher; attorney-at-law (1880-1908); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1884); appointed, reading clerk, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1885-1886); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1886; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1888); engaged, real estate business; elected, solicitor, Pottsville (1892-1894); elected, register of wills and clerk of the Orphans’ Court, Schuylkill County (1894-1897); elected, school board, Pottsville; elected, chair, Republican County Convention of Schuylkill County (1897);  unsuccessful campaign, judge, Orphans’ Court, Schuylkill County (1905); died, February 10, 1908 in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania; interred, Charles Baber Cemetery, Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
