HAYES, Alfred L., a Representative from Union County; born, July 17, 1837 in Lewisburg, Union County, Pa.; graduated, University at Lewisburg (now Bucknell University), 1855; attended, Harvard Law School; first sergeant, Company E, 142nd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862, Civil War); attorney-at-law; elected, District Attorney, Union County (1862-1876); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1876 and 1877; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1878); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1880); reelected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1888; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1890); director, Lewisburg National Bank; died, September 18, 1912 in Lewisburg, Union County, Pennsylvania; interred, Lewisburg Cemetery, Lewisburg, Union County, Pennsylvania.
