LUHR, Charles, a Representative from Elk County; born, September 25, 1830 in Baden, Germany; employed, Luhr House Hotel; school teacher (1846-1857); engaged, mercantile business; owner and operator, St. Mary’s Brewery (1876); elected, burgess, justice of the peace (1856-1863), clerk (1859-1864, 1866-1870). council and school director (1885, 1880-1883, 1889), St. Mary’s; elected, auditor, Elk County (1855); elected, treasurer, Elk County (1863-1865); associate judge, Elk County court (5 years); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1891 and 1893 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1894); died, July 13, 1909 in Saint Mary’s, Elk County, Pennsylvania; interred, Saint Mary’s Cemetery, St. Mary’s, Elk County, Pennsylvania.
