NILES, Jerome B., a Representative from Tioga County; born in Middleburg, Tioga County, Pa., September 25, 1834; attended, Union Academy, 1856; lawyer; appointed, mercantile appraiser, Tioga County (1862); message clerk, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1862-1864); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Niles Valley (1862-1863); elected, District Attorney, Tioga County (1862-1868); elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention (1872-1873); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1869, 1870, 1881, 1883, 1893 and 1895 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1885 and 1897 terms; elected, Pennsylvania Auditor General (1883-1887); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1890); engaged in real estate and lumbering; elected, president judge, Tioga County (1901-1904); died, December 29, 1904 in Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pennsylvania; interred, Wellsboro Cemetery, Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
