LAWRENCE, George Van Eman, a Representative from Washington County; born, November 13, 1818 in Washington County, Pa,; attended, Washington College (now Washington and Jefferson College); farmer; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1843 and 1846; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1844); not a candidate for reelection to the House (1845, 1847); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1849-1851, 1861-1863, 1876-1882); reelected as a Republican to the House in 1858 and 1859; elected, United States Congress (1865-1869, 1883-1885); elected, delegate-at-large, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention (1872-1873); president, People’s Bank of Monongahela; director, Monongahela division, Pennsylvania Railroad; reelected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1892 and 1894; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1896); died, October 2, 1904 in Monongahela, Washington County, Pennsylvania; interred, City Cemetery, Monongahela, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
