JEFFREY, William Roberts, a Representative from Luzerne County; born, October 12, 1857 in Slatington, Lehigh County, Pa.; slate laborer; coal miner; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1890; reelected to the House for 2 more consecutive terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1896); assistant sergeant-at-arms, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1897-1898); president, Pottsville Local United Mine Workers; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1912); machinist; died, October 28, 1936 in Newton Township, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania; interred, Mount Laurel Cemetery, Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
