KERSHNER, John D., a Representative from Schuylkill County; born, August 27, 1857 in Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County, Pa.; printing clerk; clerk, station agent, and western weighmaster, Philadelphia and Reading Railroad Company; registry accessor, Tamaqua (40 years); engaged, mercantile business; unsuccessful campaign for election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1894); board president, Tamaqua Hospital; appointed, mercantile appraiser, Schuylkill County (1896); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1896; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1898); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1898); elected, council, Tamaqua; auditor, Lehigh Navigation Coal Company (33 years); president, Tamaqua Home Building and Loan Association;  died, April 18, 1939 in Tamaqua, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania; interred, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
