POWELL, Thomas M., a Representative from Luzerne County; born, February 1, 1862 in Summit Hill, Carbon County, Pa.; attended, Nazareth Hall Academy; attended, Swarthmore College; attended, Bloomsburg Literary Institute and Normal School (now Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1896; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1898); appointed, deputy revenue collector, United States Internal Revenue Service; chair, Republican County Committee; unsuccessful campaign, treasurer, Luzerne County (1905, 1908); elected, prothonotary, Luzerne County (1910-1918); elected, tax collector, Wilkes-Barre (1919-1923); died, March 2, 1925 in the city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Vine Street Cemetery, Hazleton, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
