SMITH, Joseph W., a Representative from Clinton County; born, August 29, 1855 in Lock Haven, Clinton County, Pa.; attended, St. Vincent’s College; attended, Peirce’s Business College; engaged, cigar and tobacco industry; engaged, wholesale bottling business; elected, council, Renovo (1895); chair, Clinton County Democratic Committee (1896-1897); elected, chief burgess, Renovo (1897); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1898; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1900); died, August 29, 1902 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Lock Haven, Clinton County, Pennsylvania.
