John R Harris

John R. Harris was the son of Ephraim and Hannah Elliot Harris of Harrisville, Butler County, born on March 2, 1802. He married Maria Black. John followed his father as a general merchant and later, was the founder of the Harrisville carding mill and a tavern owner. A charter member of the Republican Party, he served one three-year term in the state Senate, 1857-1859. He died in 1874, interred in the Harrisville Cemetery, Butler County.
