Brother of John Geary and Harry Alvan Hall; brother-in-law of William H. Hyde; and the grandfather of state Senator Lyle Gillis Hall, the Senator was born in Milesburg, Centre County, Pa., September 30, 1844, the son of Benjamin McDowell and Susannah (Geary) Hall; educated in Pittsburgh, studied law; admitted to the bar November 8, 1866; elected district attorney of Elk County in 1867; reelected in 1870 and 1873; retired from practice in 1883 to engage in the coal, lumber, and railroad business and also in banking; elected as a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from March 4, 1899, to November 29, 1902.  Hall was a member of the State senate, 1903-1914.  He married Kate Maria Hyde in Ridgway, Elk County.  Senator Hall died in Tampa, Fla., January 5, 1915, age 71; interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ridgway, Pa.
