Born, Dec. 8, 1785. Grandnephew of state senator Michael Smyser and brother of state Senator Henry Smyser.
Son of Matthias and Louisa (Slagle) Smyser; born near York, Pennsylvania, December 8, 1785; married Susan Hoyer. Philip died in October 1871.
In 1816, was president of the York Vigilant Fire Company.
