Samuel Townsend Shugert

Samuel Townsend Shugert was born in Bellefonte, February 20, 1809, the second son of Joseph Bishop and Deborah Moore Dunlop Shugert. For half a century, he was the editor of the Centre Democrat; served as a clerk in the US Patent Office; appointed by President Buchanan as Acting Commissioner of Patents; seated in the state Senate, 1868; and the state House of Representatives for the term 1875-1876. Samuel died at 87, Saturday December 21, 1895, Philipsburg, at the home of his daughter. He married Fannie Alrichs Johnston.
