Born, February 11, 1851, Smithfield, Fayette County; educated in common schools; George’s Creek Academy (Smithfield); school teacher in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Illinois; pursued the Pennsylvania oil business in 1870; studied medicine; attended Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn, NY, 1883; graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Baltimore, 1884; private practice, Chicora, Millerstown, Butler County; member of the state House of Representatives, 1887-1888; state Senate, 1889-1892, filled a vacated seat in Congress, 1897-1903; returned to medical practice in Butler, Pittsburgh, and Washington DC; land development business in South Florida, died in Washington DC, December 3, 1932.
