Of Upper Darby Twp. Delaware County, John Sellers was born September 19, 1728, the son of Samuel and Sarah (Smith) Sellers; trained as a weaver; worked at his father’s twisting mill; civil engineer; elected to Provincila Assembly, 1767 (served six terms); road commissioner; with David Roittenhouse, constructed an observatory in the Philadelphia Courthouse yard, so the public could view the “transit of Venus.”  Died February 3, 1804.
