Born on November 16, 1816, Tyrone Township, Adams County Pa, the son of William and Lydia (Lease) Saddler, the Senator was a farmer and entered local politics as an 1843 county auditor in Huntington Twp. Wife - Agnes. He was elected to the state Senate in October 1847, serving one term. He died in his middle-age, leaving a son and daughter; the son, John Durbin Sadler, attended Dickinson College, enlisting in the Army as a 1st Lt., and was killed at the Battle of South Mountain, prior to Antietam, on Sept. 14, 1863. The Hon. William R. Sadler died on June 19, 1853, interred at Hampton Lutheran Cemetery, Adams County.
