Born July 13, 1767, Adam was the son of John Peter and Anna Margaret Ritscher of Lebanon.  Engaged in the hatter trade, he served in the War of 1812 as Lieutenant Colonel of the Second Regiment, First Brigade of the Pennsylvania State Militia; elected president of Lebanon’s first fire company; served as county coroner in 1816; was a member of the first borough council, 1821; and Lebanon County prothonotary, 1830-1837.  Ritscher served in the state House of Representatives from 1818 to 1823, and the state Senate, 1824 to 1826.  He died June 30, 1842; interred at the old Salem Lutheran Church cemetery.
