Born in West Sunbury, Clay Township, Butler County, Howard Painter was the son of Simon Peter and Lois (Sutton) Painter, born February 6, 1869; he married Emma Elinor Robb. Painter graduated from West Sunbury Academy; taught school in Butler County 12 years; two-term county superintendent of schools; read law with Judge James Galbreath; admitted to county bar; served four years as district attorney; private practice; and served two terms in the Senate of Pennsylvania, 1925-1932. He died in 1953, interred in North Cemetery, Butler Township.
