Henry Orth, only son of Adam Orth and Catharine Kucher, was born March 24, 1773 in Lebanon. He received a common education, learned the iron business, and at the death of his father became the owner of New Market Forge.  He was elected Sheriff of Dauphin County, 1797; state senator, 1801-1802; received Governor Snyder’s appointment as flour inspector of the Port of Philadelphia in January, 1809; and subsequently pursued a mercantile career in Philadelphia. He moved to Baltimore at the end of the War of 1812 to establish a business but died in 1816 at age forty-six.  The senator married Rebecca Rahm in 1797, sister of fellow state senator Melchior Rahm of Derry, Dauphin County.
