Henry Spering Mott
Oil land investor Henry S. Mott, son of Edward Mott and Elizabeth Spering, represented the Thirteenth Senatorial District, composed of the counties of Luzerne, Monroe and Pike. He was born at Easton, Northampton county, Pa., September 23, 1811; moved to Milford, Pennsylvania; was a farmer and contractor; Justice of the Peace, Prothonotary, Register, and Clerk of the Courts; served in the state House of Representatives, 1851 and 1852, and Canal Commissioner from 1855 to 1857. He was elected to the Senate of Pennsylvania 1861-63, and as a member of the 1873 Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention, he served on the committees – State Institutions and Buildings, and Agriculture, Mining, Manufactures and Commerce. He married Hanna Rogers Bull in Orange NY, 1832. The Hon. Henry S. Mott died on March 7, 1877.
