Walter Edmund Morris
Senator Morris was born in Punxsutawney, June 10, 1891, the son of Dr. Joseph Bowman and Ella (Means) Morris. He married Margaret Gillilland. Walter attended public schools in Punxsutawney; Oregon State College (B.S.); and University of Michigan law School (LL.B.); collegiate orator; member Delta Sigma Rho and Sigma Delta Kappa; attorney; member of the Jefferson County Court; Pa. Supreme Court; and U.S. District Court; served as Jefferson County District Attorney, 1922-1933; unsuccessful bid for Congress, 1936; Captain and personnel adjutant, 54th US Infantry, WWI, discharged with same rank in 28th Div.; served in France, July 1918 to May 1919; organized and was first Captain of the National Guard Cavalry at Punxsutawney in 1921; member of county and state bar associations, and numerous fraternal and civic associations; elected to the Senate, November 6, 1962. Senator Morris died in December 1985, Punxsutawney.
