Born April 5, 1819, Milesburg, Centre County, Senator Boggs died at Oxford Retreat Sanitarium in Cincinnati, Ohio, February 16, 1900. He was educated in public schools; worked as a printer; editor of the Hollidaysburg Standard, 1840-1845; moved to Johnstown in 1848 as agent for the Bingham Transportation line; supervisor of the Western Division, Pa. Canal; postmaster of Johnstown, 1858; school director; councilman; federal elector, 1878; state Senate, 1881-1888; and bookkeeper, Cambria Iron Co. His wife, Mary, died in 1880.
