Biography

1781 - 1868

Daniel Bertolet was the leading layman of the early Evangelical Church of Berks County and the son of Jean Bertolet of France.  He was born on June 11, 1781.  His father was one of the first Moravians to settle in the Oley Valley and an acquaintance of Count Zinzendorf.  He married Mary Greisemer in 1802.  Bertolet was a militant opponent of slavery and alcohol, and a strong states-righter.  He died in 1868.
