Cyrus Benton Tyler (R23) Bradford, Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties 1941-1948

Early Life:

Cyrus Benton Tyler, born June 14, 1878, Auburn Township, Susquehanna County Pennsylvania; son of Jefferson C. and Louisa Tyler; lived on a farm until 1910, moved, Wyoming County; office of School Director, 1910-1916; Meshoppen Borough Councilman, 1917-1931; County Commissioner, 1931-1940; president, First National Bank, Meshoppen; partner, Tyler and Cole, General Contractors, 1927; married, Alpha May Howard Tyler, then, Alpha B. Tyler; died, December 27, 1954, Tyler Memorial Hospital, Meshoppen, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania; interment, Jersey Hill Cemetery, Auburn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. 

Pennsylvania Politics:

Office of School Director, 1910-1916; Meshoppen Borough Councilman, 1917-1931; County Commissioner, 1931-1940. 

Elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate 23rd district, Bradford, Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties, 1941-1948; committee assignments, County Government, Elections, Forests and Waters, Game and Fish, Highways, Labor and Industries, Law and Order, Legislative Apportionment (Chairman), Welfare Public Assistance and Pensions, Workmen’s Compensation.     

Legacy:

Converted Meshoppen Hotel, founded, Tyler Memorial Hospital, Meshoppen, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania, gave it to citizens of Meshoppen, 1945. Spent his last three years there.
