Born on October 26, 1807, Buckingham Township, Bucks County, Benjamin Malone was the son of John and Rachel (Lloyd) Malone. Pursuing a medical career, Dr. Malone moved his practice to Bristol from Buckingham in 1845, where he married Elizabeth Jacoby. Active in local politics, Benjamin was a successful Whig Candidate for the Bucks Senate seat in 1849, serving a three year term, 1850-52. He moved to Philadelphia as his term expired. In 1856, he joined the new Republican Party, and during the Civil War, he enlisted as a payroll “purser” in the Union Army. After the war, the Senator’s health rapidly declined as he died in Philadelphia on December 29, 1871.
