Born in Latrobe, Westmoreland County, November 19, 1908, the son of James J. and Katherine O’Neill Mahady; Senator Mahady was educated at Latrobe High School and Harvard University; graduated from Harvard Law School, 1933; attorney and member of bar of Westmoreland County; Lt. Col., U.S. Army, World War II; and received a Legion of Merit and Army Commendation Ribbon with oak leaf cluster. He was director-secretary of Newcomer products, Inc. and Westmoreland Federal Savings and Loan Assn.; director, Latrobe Broadcasters; chaired the advisory board for Salvation Army, and belonged to numerous civic, professional, and social organizations. He married Janet Matlock. The Senator died on October, 7, 1973.
