Of Crawford County, Samuel Logan was born in South Shenango Township, September 17, 1838; attended common schools; Hartstown Academy; pursued farming; served as justice of the peace and in numerous township offices; delegate to the Democratic State Conventions, 1875 and 1876; member of the House of Representatives, 1875-1876; defeated Republican State Chair William H. “Bull” Andrews for a Senate seat, 1890; served 1891-1894; died on April 2, 1914, Hartstown, Crawford County.  Senator Logan married Angeline Free.
