Edward Hess Laubach
The son of Samuel and Lucy A. (Hess) Laubach, Edward H. was born on September 1, 1852, Northampton, Northampton County; educated in public schools; Allentown Seminary; Franklin and Marshall College; managed his father’s “mercantile and milling” business; president of the Northampton Brewing Company; elected member of the Democratic County Committee; served several years on the State Democratic Committee; delegate to numerous state nominating conventions; school director Northampton Township (now borough); elected to the Senate of Pennsylvania, November 1890; reelected in 1894, becoming first state senator from Northampton County to succeed himself, but he was unseated during a subsequent contested election by Republican Henry Heller, 1895. He married Elizabeth Stewart of Catasauqua in 1876.
