Biography

1805 - 1861

Senator Konigmacher was born December 12, 1805 in Lancaster Co., PA, the son of Benjamin and Margretta Fahnestock Konigmacher of Ephrata, Lancaster County; he apprenticed with his father as a tanner; in 1846, constructed a “fine commodious hotel” surrounded by cottages to accommodate business and recreational travelers using the Mountain Springs of Ephrata; was elected to the state House of Representatives, 1838 and 1840; member of the 1838 Constitutional Convention; the first legislator offering the idea to build a state hospital in Harrisburg; persuaded the Reading and Columbia Railroad to pass through Ephrata, and was then named president of the road in 1861.  In the same year he died on April 4, 1861, after catching a cold, returning from Philadelphia.  He married Hanna Cecelia Slaymaker.
