Born on September 27, 1805, Huntingdon County, the son of Revolutionary War veteran Alexander and Nancy King, Alexander King, Jr. attended the Bedford Academy; read law with John Johnson of Huntingdon County; was admitted to the bar in 1834; practiced law in St. Louis, 1840-1842; returned to Bedford and established a law practice; elected to the state Senate for one term, 1848-1850; appointed President Judge of the 16th Judicial District to fill a vacancy; reelected to a ten-year term; and died during that term in Blair County, January 10, 1871. He married Mary Jane Watson of Bedford. His son, William Watson King was killed during the Civil War, serving in the Union Army; another son, Alexander Jr., became a prominent attorney in his own right.
