James Kelton Jr. was the son of Scotsman James Sr. and Mary Hackett Kelton (his second wife), born about 1776 in London Grove, Chester County.  He served as sheriff of Chester County, three years; was the first postmaster of West Grove; elected to the state House of Representatives, 1805-1808 and 1819-1820; and the state Senate, 1821-1826.  He married Agnes Mackey, daughter of Major David Mackey of London Grove.  Senator Kelton died in 1844 and is buried at New London Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
