Son of William and Mary M. (Lower) Bell, his father, a decorated Union soldier during the Civil War; Harry Jacob Bell, physician, was born in Arendtsville, Adams County, March 11, 1868; attended common schools; select schools; Muhlenberg College, Allentown; studied medicine under Dr. R.B. Elderdice of McKnightstown, Pa.; in 1889 entered Medico-Chirurgical Medical College, Philadelphia, graduated 1892; pursued medical practice in Juniataville, Fayette County through 1894; moved to Dawsonville, Fayette County; Coroner of Fayette County, 1908-1916; member of the state Senate, 1927-1934; and alternate delegate to 1928 Republican National Convention. He married Helen M. Reed. A Lutheran, Senator Bell died on September 30, 1943; interred in Union Cemetery, Oak Grove, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
