Born in Shrewsberry, York County, February 5, 1813, Senator John B. Beck moved to Williamsport in 1839; trained and worked as a tailor; entered the hardware business, 1863; served as Sheriff of Lycoming County, 1850-1853; served three years in the state House of Representatives in 1854, 1862, and 1863; and one term in the state Senate, 1868-1870. He married first, Mary A. Butler, and second, Josephine White. The Senator died in Williamsport in October 1890.
