Biography

1793 - 1839

Chancey Forward was born in Old Granby, Conn., February 4, 1793, the son of Samuel and Susannah Holcomb Forward;  moved with his father to Ohio in 1800, and a short time afterward to Greensburg, Pa.; pursued classical studies; studied law; was admitted to the bar in Pittsburgh, 1817; law practice in Somerset, Pa.; member of the state House of Representatives, 1820-1822; elected to Congress, 1826-1831; appointed prothonotary and recorder of Somerset County, 1831; died in Somerset on October 19, 1839; interred in Aukeny Square Cemetery. Senator Forward was married however the name of his wife is unknown.
