Henry Fetter
Biography

Known as “The General,” Henry Fetter was born on February 8, 1793, Carlisle, Cumberland County; worked as a farmer and merchant in Carlisle; served as a private in the War of 1812, Marcus Hook Camp, 1st Brigade, 2nd Div., Pa. Militia; rising in 9th Co., 2nd Regt., Pa Vol Lt Inf as Major General. After the war, he moved to Landisburg, Perry County and married Jane Sample (his house is now a museum for the Historical Society). A career member of the Pennsylvania Militia, during the Mexican War campaign, Henry served as Major General, 15th Div.; and commander Of Co. H. 47th Regt., Pa. Vol. Inf., 1848-1853. General Fetter served a single, three-year term in the state Senate, 1857-1859. He died December 10, 1863, Landisburg, Perry County; interred in Landisburg Cemetery, Tyrone Twp.
