The son of Leonard and Elizabeth Smyser Eichelberger, Frederick was born on August 24, 1783, Carroll County, Maryland, his parents relocating in York County, Pa..  The senator was a colonel in the Pennsylvania Militia, War of 1812; a member of the state House of Representatives, 1800-1802; 1807 and 1815-1817; the state Senate, 1819-1823;  was the largest landowner in Manchester Township, York Co. during his time; and married Catherine Baker of Carroll County, Maryland in 1801.  He died on September 5, 1836, Franklin, York County.
