Early Life:

James Darwin Dunlap, born January 15, 1809, Kaskaskia, Indiana Territory; son of Doctor James and Nancy Tuttle Dunlap; relocated via steamer down the Mississippi, Erie County, Pennsylvania; read law; admitted, Erie bar, 837; law partner, Elijah Babbitt; elected, Whig, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1841-1842; elected, Whig, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1844-1845; elected, Whig, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1846; school director; trustee, Erie Academy; founder, Sunday school superintendent, Seventh Street Methodist Episcopal Church; major force behind the construction, first Erie High School; married, Marian Finley Russell, 1853, children, Emma Dunlap, Wallace J Dunlap; died, February 7, 1858; interment, Erie Cemetery, Erie County, Pennsylvania.
