Flanagan Rankin, seven children; elected, Democrat, Commissioner of Allegheny County, 1935; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate, 44th district, 1935-1938;died, May 7, 1949 (aged 80), Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interment, Woodlawn Cemetery, Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Legacy: 

The George Rankin Jr. Memorial Bridge spanning the Monongahela River near Rankin and Braddock Boroughs in Pennsylvania. The steel cantilever spandrel-braced deck arch bridge was built by the County of Allegheny in 1951. The bridge has a main span length of 505.25 feet and a 75-foot vertical clearance at the centerline of the channel span. The town of Rankin is named after a different Rankin, Thomas.
