William Alexander Purviance

Born, William Alexander Purviance, June 22, 1788, Claysville, Washington County, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Elizabeth (Thompson) Purviance; farmer, surveyor, later of Butler County; married Sophia Strichenen. Came to the Petersville neighborhood in 1810 and purchased the William Campbell farm and mill. For forty-nine years he was a surveyor, served two terms in the legislature and was county surveyor for three terms. Died April 1, 1857.
