James Greenwood was born in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa., May 4, 1951 , the son of James and Alice Greenwood; he graduated from Council Rock High School, Newton, Pa., 1969; B.A., Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., 1973; legislative assistant to Pennsylvania state Representative John S. Renninger, 1972-1976; head house parent, The Woods Schools, 1974-1976; caseworker, Bucks County, Pa., Children and Youth Social Service Agency, 1977-1980; member of the state House of Representatives, 1981-1986; member of the state Senate, 1987-1992; elected to Congress, serving 1993-2005; did not run for reelection in 2004. He married Christina Paugh.
