John Meek Goehring, born October 13, 1848, Reserve Township, Allegheny City (now Pittsburgh), Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; son of Charles Louis and Eliza Meek Goehring; Humbolt Street School, Allegheny City; Western University (now University of Pittsburgh); Harvard University; admitted bar, 1876; attorney; private practice; elected, Allegheny City Common Council, 1895; elected, president, Allegheny City Common Council, 1899-1902; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1903-1906; gubernatorial appointed, Pittsburgh Council of Nine; elected, first president, Pittsburgh Council of Nine; resumed law practice; married, Mary Elizabeth Neeb Goehring, children, Doctor William Neeb, Harvey J., Louis M., Flora; died, June 21, 1933 (aged 84), interment, Homewood Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
