WHITAKER, Samuel Adams, a Representative from Chester County; born in Phoenixville, Chester County, Pa., February 15, 1876; LL.B., University of Pennsylvania, 1899; first sergeant, Battery F, 3rd Brigade, Pennsylvania National Guard (1898-1899); captain, Company D, 6th Infantry, Pennsylvania National Guard (1899-1905); captain, Battery C, 1st Field Artillery Regiment, United States Army (1916, Mexican Emergency; Mexican Service Medal recipient); captain, Battery C, 107th Field Artillery Regiment, United States Army (1917, World War I); lawyer; partner, J. Whitaker Thompson and Morris Dallett; trust officer, Phoenixville Trust Company; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1912; reelected to House in 1914, 1916, 1920 and 1922; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1918); elected, Speaker (1921-1922); died while in office, prior to taking the oath, January 2, 1923 in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Morris Cemetery, Phoenixville, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
