RUMSEY, Joseph Bonepart, a Representative from Potter County; born, August 29, 1841 near Mainsburg, Tioga County, Pa.; educated in public schools; private, Army of the Potomac, 5th Corps, 2nd Division, 14th Regiment, United States Army (1862-1865, Civil War); farmer (1866-1884); railroad promoter and constructor, Canisteo, NY to Oswayo, Pa. line (1884-1910); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1904); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1910; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1912, 1914); died, May 17, 1915; interred, Wells Cemetery, Oswayo, Potter County, Pennsylvania.
