McCARTHY, John Aloysius, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, June 20, 1872 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; graduated, Central High School; LL.B., University of Pennsylvania Law School; lawyer; assistant professor, University of Pennsylvania Law School (1896-1898); secretary, board of examiners of Philadelphia County (1895-1898); of counsel to French Spoliation Claimants, United States Court of Claims; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1902; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1904); president, Pennsylvania Sugar Company; executive vice president, Real Estate Trust Company; trustee, Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company; died, April 4, 1939 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
