MATES, James Buell, a Representative from Butler County; born in Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, Pa., September 2, 1859; graduated, Witherspoon Institute, Butler; school teacher; lawyer (1883-1941); chair, Butler County Republican Committee (1887); enumerator, United States Census, Butler County (1890); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to serve the 1893 term; re-elected to the 1901 term; not a candidate for reelection the House for the 1895 or 1903 term; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Butler, Pa. (1909-1913); died, October 2, 1941 in Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania; interred, North Side Cemetery, Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania.
