HAYS, Thomas, a Representative from Butler County; born in Bradys Bend, Armstrong County, Pa., January 19, 1840; school teacher; corporal, Company B, 103rd Regiment (1861-1862, Civil War) and Battery L, 4th United States Light Artillery (1862-1864, Civil War), Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry; horse and cattle farmer; engaged in the oil, real estate, and banking business; elected, school director, Fairview Township (5 terms); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to serve the 1903 and 1905 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1907 term; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1909-1912); died, February 29, 1920 in Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania; interred, North Side Cemetery, Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania.
